iPod Vs. HDD

This infographic done by Chris Smith Graphic Design final year student of university at The University of Wales, Newport in 2010

This particular infographic is about his love for listening to music, it shows his iPod on the right hand side, with the coloured rings showing how mnay singles, albums and videos I have stored on there, and the weights hanging from the coloured rings represent the equivelant weight if I carried around the music on cassettes, LP's or CD's.

On the left it shows his external HDD where I store the original copies of his files, with the coloured rings still representing the number of singles, CD's etc, but this time instead of weights attached to the rings, there are small clocks showing the time it took me to download the music over the internet to his pc.

New Map of Global Forest Heights

Scientists have released a global map of forest canopy heights based on NASA data. “Although there are other local- and regional-scale forest canopy maps, the new map is the first that spans the entire globe based on one uniform method,” says the NASA press release. “The work — based on data collected by NASA’s ICESat, Terra, and Aqua satellites — should help scientists build an inventory of how much carbon the world’s forests store and how fast that carbon cycles through ecosystems and back into the atmosphere.”

Representing the US Military Budget by 3D Computer Graphics Imagery

Following the hyperzoom style of visualization artist Chris Jordan, the movie attempts to represent the US military budget of $549 billion dollars as a heap of 88,548 Abram M1 tanks. This all fully rendered as sharp 3D computer graphics imagery (CGI) including some simulated gravitational physics.
