America’s military presence in Afghanistan, which once stood at more than 100,000 troops, has dwindled to a tenth of that number and may disappear almost entirely.

Visualizing the Movements of Chess Pieces Using Millions of Games

Using the 2.2 million chess games stored at Million Base, Steve Tung has visualized the movements of individual chess pieces across the board. Each of his images reveal that unique footprint and some of the most popular strategies used during a normal game.

Mickael Delalande Makes 3D Sketches with Wire


French artist Mickael Delalande uses wire to make sketches that nearly take flight. Looking like he’s drawn contour lines in the air, his work reflects the objects of everyday life in full-scale – from squeezed tubes of toothpaste, to a floppy pair of Converse All-Stars. The sculptures incorporate playful use of light and shadow, tricking us into seeing double in the shapes they cast on the surfaces around them.
