The Top 50 Gawker Media Passwords

On Sunday night, hackers posted online a trove of data from Gawker Media’s servers, including the usernames, email addresses and passwords of more than one million registered users. The passwords were originally encrypted, but 188,279 of them were decoded and made public as part of the hack. Using that dataset, The Wall Street Journal found the 50 most-popular Gawker Media passwords:

Visualizing 10 Million Facebook Friendships

When the data is the social graph of 500 million people, there are a lot of lenses through which you can view it. One that piqued Facebook intern Paul Butler curiosity was the locality of friendship. He was interested in seeing how geography and political borders affected where people lived relative to their friends. He wanted a visualization that would show which cities had a lot of friendships between them.

He began by taking a sample of about ten million (about 2%) pairs of friends from Apache Hive, Facebook's data warehouse. He combined that data with each user's current city and summed the number of friends between each pair of cities. Then he merged the data with the longitude and latitude of each city.

EXIT Festival

Exit (also known as State of Exit) is an annual summer music festival in the Petrovaradin Fortress of Novi Sad, Serbia. It is staged annually since 2000 and usually lasts four days.

This infographic is about statistics of EXIT Festival from 2000 to 2010. Next year Exit Festival will be held for the twelfth time, and between July 7 and 10, 2011, the two-millionth visitor will pass the festival gates :)
